AMSR-E/AMSR2 Arctic sea ice
concentration(DPR)
Data introduction
AMSR-E (2002-2011) and AMSR2 (2012-present) 12.5km and 10.0km gridded standard brightness temperature data have been publicly released by institutions and universities such as JAXA, NSIDC and Bremen University. Website query. The sea ice intensity product was developed by the Ocean University of China (OUC) Polar Ocean Process and Global Ocean Change Key Laboratory (POGOC) and the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Physical Oceans (POL). The brightness temperature based on JAXA meshing is obtained by inversion of dual-polarized ratio (DPR).
Data time span: AMSR-E: June 1, 2002 - October 4, 2011 AMSR2: July 2, 2012 to present; Time resolution: 1 day; Spatial resolution: 10km × 10km (Polar stereo grid ); Timeliness: JAXA gridded brightness temperature data 48 hours after release.
Since the spatial resolution of brightness temperature obtained by AMSR-E and AMSR2 in the same frequency band (36.5 GHz) is similar, we use the same parameters when inverting the sea ice products of AMSR-E and AMSR2 by DPR algorithm.
Note: The sea ice product calibration work of AMSR-E/ AMSR2, which is currently inversion using the DPR algorithm, is still in progress. For partial verification work, see Zhang et al (2013; 2018). Now our team is conducting a broader range of validation, such as applying MODIS imagery data, SAR remote sensing data, and ship-based observations.
