China news agency, Shanghai, April 8 (Reporter Zong Chenliang, Lin Lin) The reporter learned from the 28th Antarctic expedition press conference in China on the 8th that China’s icebreaker for the polar science test is expected to enter service in 2014. This will change the status quo of China's polar scientific research relying on the Snow Dragon individual combat.
It is reported that the performance of China's new generation of polar scientific research vessels will be significantly better than the Snow Dragon that has been in service for 18 years. Wang Shuoren, political commissar of the Snow Dragon, said that the Snow Dragon Boat is an Arctic transport ship purchased from Russia, not a real icebreaker. Therefore, China needs to build a real icebreaker. The new ship will be able to complete icebreaking thickness of at least 1.5 meters and equip with a large number of state-of-the-art scientific equipment.
The 28th Antarctic expedition team captain Jiao Yutian further introduced that the Snow Dragon is mainly transported, with the scientific test function, and many scientific instruments are not available. The new generation of scientific research vessels in China will be based on scientific research, and the equipment for scientific research will reach the international level. The most important advancement of the new ship is the dynamic positioning device, which enables the ship to maintain its original position under high wind conditions to improve the quality of the scientific research data.
Regarding the timetable for the launch of the new ship, Weng Xinxin, deputy director of the Policy and Regulations and Planning Department of the State Oceanic Administration, revealed that the new ship is currently undergoing conceptual design and progress is relatively smooth, and it is expected to enter service in 2014. It is reported that a new generation of icebreakers is jointly designed by China and foreign companies and built by China.
