The 5th Nordic Sea Science Research in 2018

On September 29, 2018, my laboratory faculty postdoctoral Wang Xiaoyu, faculty Wang Hao, graduate student Wang Xin, Zhang Shumeng, Luo Zhixiang, Qi Mengfan, Zhang Jiangyi, Fu Tianyu and his team from Beijing to Tromso, Norway, relying on The Norwegian “STALBAS” Marine Survey Ship Organization implemented a 17-day Nordic Ocean Ocean voyage. The voyage is subject to the approval of the Norwegian Fisheries Agency for a scientific investigation of the Norwegian Economic Zone, the Jan Mayen Fishery Zone and the Svalbard Fisheries Reserve. Finally, combined with the scientific goals and tasks, the focus is on the investigation of the central convective zone of Greenland and the surrounding area of Yangmayan Island. Among them, one section of the long ocean section of the East-West and South-North runs through the basin area in the Greenland Sea. The Mayan Island waterway completed 3 encrypted sections and completed 57 CTD marine sites. During the inspection period, one set of deep sea submersibles laid on the previous voyage was successfully recovered in the Nordic Sea Moen ridge, and the long-term hydrological variation characteristics of the ocean at six depths were obtained. In addition, with the self-developed disposable sea fog optical sonde, the low-altitude cloud optical structure was observed for the first time in the Nordic sea, and 28 effective profile data were obtained.

This survey is the fifth ocean survey mission led by our laboratory in the Arctic Sea, the key area of the Arctic Atlantic sector. It is also the first international Arctic Atlantic sector voyage funded by the Qingdao National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology. The survey scope of this voyage covers almost all areas of the Greenland Basin, and the data obtained will be useful for in-depth analysis of the variation of the convective area distribution and the nature of the overflow water in the Greenland Sea during the summer season. The deep-sea submarine data on the Moen Ridge effectively compensates for the current lack of long-term monitoring capability in the Central Region of the Nordic Sea, and provides a good foundation and opportunity for further research on subsequent scientific issues and future Sino-Norwegian cooperation.
