POGOC and the Russian Institute of Antarctic Research (AARI) held a polar science exchange meeting

On April 16, 2024, Ocean University of China and the Arctic and Antarctic Institute of the Russian Federation (AARI) held an online exchange meeting on polar science to promote cooperation between the two sides in polar marine scientific research, scientific research and education. Liu Yong, Vice President of Ocean University of China, and Alexander Makarov, Director of the Russian Institute of Antarctic Research, attended the meeting.

Liu Yong pointed out in his speech that Ocean University of China and the Russian Institute of Antarctic Research have common research foundations and research interests in many fields, and there is broad space for cooperation. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of Ocean University of China and the 40th anniversary of China's polar expedition, and hopes to further promote practical cooperation between the two sides in polar research, academic exchanges and talent training through this meeting. Alexander Makarov said that the cooperation between the two sides is very meaningful, and he hopes to strengthen academic exchanges and carry out cooperative research in many fields, and looks forward to fruitful results in cooperation

Professor Guo Peiqing of the School of International Affairs and Public Administration of the University and Nadezhda Kharlampieva, professor of the Department of Water Resources and Estuary Water Resources of AARI and envoy of friendship to the people of Shandong Province, spoke successively. Li Weidong, Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office of the University, and Maxim Tatarkin, Director of the International Scientific Cooperation Department of AARI, presided over the opening ceremony


Shi Jiuxinhe, professor of the School of Ocean and Atmospheric Affairs and director of the Key Laboratory of Polar Ocean Processes and Global Ocean ChangeMaxim Tatarkin presided over the academic presentation and exchange discussion. Directors of relevant laboratories of AARI Department of Oceanography, Department of Sea Ice Monitoring and Forecasting, Department of Ocean-Atmosphere Interaction, Department of Ice Information System Development, School of Oceanography and Atmosphere, Key Laboratory of Physics and Ocean Education, Department of Information Science and Engineering, Key Laboratory of Marine Chemistry Theory and Engineering Technology of the Ministry of Education, School of Marine Life, College of Fisheries, Relevant scholars from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering introduced their team members, scientific investigations and research progress as representatives. Scientists from both sides had full exchanges on physical oceanography, air-ice-sea interaction, sea ice remote sensing, biological oceanography and other fields. The meeting reached a consensus on promoting the establishment of a regular interactive exchange mechanism and exploring the establishment of cooperative research institutions, and the two sides will jointly promote long-term exchanges and cooperation in the field of polar oceans.
